DJ Rekha is known nationwide as the creator of the famous Basement Bhangra nights and Bollywood Disco in NYC. DJ Rekha has been covered by Newsweek, The NY Times, and CNN.
BollyGrooves is back on June 19th celebrating 6 years of providing Seattle with great Bollywood, Global and top 40 mash-ups. We started with Panjabi MC in 2004, then brought the entire Rishi Rich Project with Jay Sean at Bumbershoot in 2006, followed by Bollywood mega DJ, DJ Suketu in 2009 and 2010. Now, for our 6 year anniversary, we decided it was time to bring a true pioneer of US South Asian club nights: DJ Rekha.

DJ Rekha performs at a famous monthly event known as Basement Bhangra at SOB's on Varick Street in New York City. Since its launch in 1997, Basement Bhangra has popularized the traditional-modern Bhangra blend, making the genre a part of the NYC club scene. This night is the night that people will schedule their trips around, because SOB’s on the first Thursday of the month is the place to get your dose of South Asian flavor by DJ Rekha.
DJ Rekha has brought South Asian music to New York. Newsweek recognized her as one of the most influential South Asians in the US, and she has received accolades from The New York Times, CNN, The Fader, The Village Voice, and The Washington Post, among others.
Her recent album, DJ Rekha Presents Basement Bhangra, is a 17 track mix CD with four exclusive tracks including two original productions from Rekha. DJ Rekha has collaborated with an array of artists including Wyclef Jean, Panjabi MC, and Bikram Singh to name a few. The album weaves Punjabi folk traditions, dance hall rhythms from the U.S., U.K. and Jamaica, and DJ techniques that are 100% New York.
In 2000, DJ Rekha founded Sangament, a production company that produces live concerts and provides music consulting services to record labels, cultural institutions, media companies, and corporations. DJ Rekha produces live events and her monthly parties, Basement Bhangra and Bollywood Disco presented by Sangament, Inc.

Also spinning, Seattle’s most influential Bollywood music DJ – DJ Aanshul. Aanshul has been taking Seattle by a storm with his popular Bollywood mixing style since 2002 and well before that while living in New Delhi – over the past several years, he has played with the most famous and influential. In 2004, Aanshul co-founded The Bollywood Project, now known as BollyGrooves (Seattle’s biggest Bollywood monthly) at which he is a resident. DJ Aanshul is known for being one of the most versatile international music DJ’s on the west coast – he’s able to flawlessly mix Bollywood, mash-up’s/ club anthems, 80’s & 90’s music, global to house music. Aanshul’s mixing style cannot be tampered with and he has trained with the most famous DJ’s. In fact, one of India’s most famous Bollywood DJ’s has been known to say DJ Aanshul is the best Bollywood DJ in the US that they have heard to date. DJ Aanshul always delivers quality to the highest degree of Bollywood influenced music and is consistently looked at for large scale or challenging South Asian events in the Northwest area as he can keep a crowd dancing for over 6 hours straight and always packing the dance floor.
